School finance restrictions also limit opportunities to provide financial incentives to the best staff to work at Hind Academy.
The micro-innovation designed to overcome this problem involves a three-step teacher recruitment process that adds a three-day teaching trial period to the standard CV check and interview. Candidates are observed by Shamima interacting with students and teaching a number of lessons to allow them to demonstrate their teaching skill, grasp of content and ability to manage behaviour. The value of the innovation is in taking some of the risk out of recruitment of teachers by enabling Shamima to actually see the teachers in action and observe how they fit into the culture of the school, rather than just basing decisions on interviews and CVs.
The micro-innovation recognises the crucial importance of high quality teachers in improving education and is a thorough example of a process designed to remove some of the risk from teacher recruitment. Watching teachers teach is very important if you are to make a judgment about their effectiveness.
Potential implementation challenges
The micro-innovation relies on the fact that the Principal or teacher observing the candidate has sufficient knowledge to be able to make a judgment as to whether the teacher is a strong teacher.

Shamima is now happy that Hind Academy has a mix of experienced and high-potential teachers who have markedly improved results and whose motivation has resulted in knock-on impact on both teacher and student attendance. The academy has sent many students to Municipal Corporation of Delhi exams with outstanding results.
